Is it possible that mouth sores that are white in the middle to be a symptom of an std?

Possible: Any ulcer in the mouth heals with a whitish appearance as it heals. So any ulcer of the ling of the mouth could have a whitish appearance. A common ulcer is herpes, but it susally also is see on the lipis as well.
