I have a small 0.5 cm red blemish of skin above my anus. sometimes it looks more bloody, sometimes just a blemish. dont think it can be a syphilis chancre. it isnt raised and isnt painful - wouldnt know it was there unless i checked. any ideas?

Not possible to judge without visual exam. See a doctor. (If you are sexually active and at possible risk for STD, it could be syphilis. A common kind of skin lesion of secondary is called condyloma lata, is painless, and is common in the anal area regardless of anal sexual exposure.)
