A member asked:

I am taking yaz and lamisil. i got my period normally when i was supposed to (before my last period i had brown discharge for a few days and my period lasted for 2 days). i wonder if the contraceptive effect is reduced and do i have a reason to worry?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

"Yaz" is a low dose oral contraceptive, and because the use of same stops ovarian production of estrogen, the lining of the uterus (endometrium) is not as thick as with a "natural" menstrual cycle, so there is frequently minimal withdrawal bleeding. This does not affect the contraceptive aspect, unless the "placebo" period is longer than seven days, and ovulation can occur.
