A member asked:

Im on birth control (monthly injections which i apply correctly). i had unprotected sex a few weeks ago. i took an emergency contraceptive 1 hour after just to make sure but now my period is a bit late. i am not that regular but should i be worried?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

"Birth control injections" are usually every three months, and by a physician using depo-progesterone. Non-regular periods are common using progestin injections. If breast tenderness, fluid retention and/or pregnancy symptoms occur, obtain a serum HCG test to make certain about pregnancy. "A bit late" is common with "irregular periods".
