A member asked:

Once hpv 16 or18 enters my body and becomes dormant i can get the vaccine and make an immune memory for hpv 16 and 18 and then one day if dormant viruses become active can my immune system attack those viruses?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Once your body is infected by strains 16/18, dormancy is possible when your immune system develops antibodies to control & stop the contagious spread to others. The vaccine taken after infection does not alter your immune system significantly, since it already has an antibody level that prevents new infection by those strains. A dormant strain may or may not re-activate if immunity declines.
