A member asked:

Hi doc, i have been on my flight period for over 14 days. i know it's not normal, is something wrong with me? this has happened before, but the doctor i went to never saw it as a health threat and just gave me contraceptive pills. i'm not on any?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Long "period" ?'s: A true "menstrual event" occurs usually 14 days after ovulation. Bleeding for "14 days" indicates other causes (polyps, fibroids. pregnancy outside the uterus (ectopic) ). If pregnancy is possible, obtain a serum HCG test to be certain about pregnancy. See your gyn physician for an exam to confirm the diagnosis. Low dose bcp's may be an alternative.
