Nothing special: However, expect your body to occasionally release ejaculate during sleep.

Masturbation: Agree with Dr. Ferguson. This will not harm you. However, you may sporadically have nocturnal emissions.

When is a normal time to start having sex again after giving birth?

6 weeks: For many years obs have always said 6 weeks. I would imagine most patients do not wait that long. With an episiotomy, we feel 6 weeks are needed for complete healing. Without an episiotomy there is no need to wait 6 weeks. The uterus takes about 6 weeks to return to normal size but this should not be a factor. With a cesarean certainly 6 weeks makes sense. In short, i would suggest 6 weeks.

Is it normal to not want to have sex after giving birth?

It is: Part of the postpartum changes you go through is a rapid change in hormones. The estrogen and Progesterone that were surging through your pregnancy suddenly drop down to normal or even low levels. So it is pretty normal to not be interested in sex. Plus your body has gone through a pretty big trauma and you need time to recover.

Yes: Unless you have a complication of pregnancy it is safe to have intercourse throughout pregnancy. The main complications that would make it dangerous to have sex would be complications involving the cervix and the placenta. If you are not sure don't be afraid to ask.

Lowered function: While sexual potential can carry through into quite older age, the erectile capacity and ejacualate volume decrease with age. Some lose desire which is entirely psychological. Note the many products on the market for this and the destruction of endangered animals for this (rhino horns, bear gall bladder stones, etc.).
A 47-year-old member asked:

HPT: Most women take a pregnancy test when they miss their period or thereafter. However some early pregnancy tests may be able to detect pregnancy up to six days prior to a missed period.
