A member asked:

On the 1st of my period i started new contraceptives ( oralcon ) i was advised by the nurse to start on the red inactive pills and then once im done i must go back to the white pills from the top new pack tomorrow do i start on the white or red?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hmmm....: Hard to guess why a person would take the pills out of order. If a woman starts with the inactive pills, for example 7 inactive pills, she misses the first seven days of her hormonal birth control pills and is not protected yet. She can start now at the beginning with active pills, but is not reliably protected for this month. Usually means condoms can additionally be used until finishing pack #2.
