Special circumstance: Normal healthy people don't get tested for HSV (herpes 1 or 2). If there are special circumstances such as having a rash that is suspected to be herpes, or having a spouse or partner with a rash suspected of being herpes, then one or both people can get tested for herpes 1 and herpes 2 antibodies. One's primary care doctor can order the tests. Sometimes tests can be ordered online.
