Cold compress: The nerve endings sending the "itchy" message to the brain slow down if you apply cold to the area. Sometimes the sensation of cooler skin will mask the brains perception of the itch message. You can toss some ice cubes & water in a heavy zip-lock bag, wrap it in a face cloth or kitchen towel & it will act as a cool compress. Hydrocortizone cream may also help.
