HSV 1 vs. HSV II: These two variants of herpes virus can occur in both oral and genital areas, respectively. Both are extremely communicable, and tend to re-emerge under stressful life conditions, including other viral and bacterial illnesses. There is little cross immunity, or "protection" from one to the other.
