A member asked:

Had sex 2 days before starting an antibiotic while on nexplanon birth control can this cause me to be pregnant ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe not: Having sex is the usual way to cause a woman to get pregnant... so the answer to such a question is always yes (assuming a fertile woman and a fertile man). That said, Nexplanon works well and should prevent pregnancy, regardless of whether or not either person is using commonly prescribed antibiotics... with the exception of rifampin. Rifampin can lower the blood levels of contraceptive hormones.
