Motivation: Women have been getting PAP smears for decades because of the basic risk they have for cervical cancer (they have a cervix). In the last 2 decades they finally linked HPV, a self clearing virus, with the potential over YEARS/DECADES to cause cervical and other cancers. There is no treatment, and most will never get cancer, but the test may motivate you to keep followup appointments to be sure.
