YES!: Pregnancy is a time full of hormone changes, increased stress, and lack of sleep. All of these contribute to mood swings. It it really normal to feel irritable one minute and really happy the next. Ask your friends and family to bear with you during this time.

Yes: America as we knew it has changed dramatically and rapidly. The economy is a concern daily. Many women, even if happy to be pregnant, wonder about the world in which their babies will live. I would be surprised if there weren't mood swings in all moms. Add onto that the hormone shifts of pregnancy, and, yes, changes in mood can be expected. But also check out my guide for mood disorder, depression.

A 38-year-old member asked:
How can I manage my mood swings in my pregnancy?

May be Normal: Mood swings are directly a result on changing hormone levels of estrogen and progesterone. During the early parts of your pregnancy, these hormones are at their highest and women may experience an increase in mood swings. These levels of hormones will stabilize as you enter the second and third trimesters and the mood swings stabilize. If your mood does not improve, let your doctor know.
