A female asked:

i keep getting a yeast infection. my husband and i are trying to conceive is his sperm causing this problem?

No: Sperm don't cause yeast infections. Frequent sex doesn't directly cause them either. However, trauma, lubricants, other irritants, etc related to intercourse can disrupt the normal vaginal protection and give you a yeast infection. Best wishes!

A 38-year-old member asked:

Should I be concerned that my baby has an ear infection?

Dr. Cornelia Franz
Specializes in Pediatrics
No: Ear infections are common and many children have one or two in the first two years. If they are becoming recurrent, than I am concerned and want more information. Often diet can be a factor, or starting daycare, or if you moved to a new location. Garlic and willow drops (or garlic and mullein or garlic and goldenseal) in the ear as drops can help alleviate pain.

Ears are connected..: ...To the nose on the inside, with a tunnel called the eustacian tube. Anything that happens in the nose, can affect the ear.

The most common cause of ear infection is that the Eustachian tube isn't working. This results in a negative pressure, like a small vacuum. The negative pressure can be strong enough to pull fluid from the delicate tissues lining the middle ear. Once there is fluid, bacteria from the nose can then infect it. There are several reasons for the Eustachian tube to not work, including colds/allergy

Yes: Vaginal penetration by the penis will not induce infection simply because your partner has a uti.

What can I do to prevent bacterial infections?

Good hygiene: The best way to prevent bacterial infections, or viral infections, is good hygiene. Wash your hand properly and often. Next come nutrition; your immune system works much better if you give it the proper tools to work with. Next comes sleep; not sleeping properly or enough has been shown to weaken the immune system and increase susceptibility to infections.

Many possibilities: Inadequate therapy, re-exposure or frequent exposure to persons with causative organisms (like schoolteachers), changes in immune function, chronic tonsillar infection, and so on and so on.
