Details matter: How do you know if you have hsv1 or 2? Sometimes genital herpes is type 1. Most people already have type 1 and cannot get it from another person. Has your boyfriend had a blood test to define his herpes status? Most people who harbor herpes, type 1 or 2 or both, have no symptoms and are not aware that they already have it.
