A member asked:

I'm 52. i get lower abdomen rectum pain in the mornings soon as i wake up. after passing stool gas the pain stops. what could be the problem.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Gastroenterologist: This may be a gas entrapment problem with some spasm of the levator muscle in the anorectal area relieved by expelling flatus. It would be an unusual pattern for irritable bowel syndrome which often is symptomatic after eating rather than overnight. A gastroenterologist is best qualified to evaluate you.
