Ovulation: Even for someone with regular periods, early or late ovulation happens frequently. This is why the calendar method of birth control isn't much better than no birth control. Your body is designed for reproduction and its quite good at it usually. A home pregnancy test will be accurate a week after the date of the expected period. Best wishes.
