A member asked:

I had my mirena (levonorgestrel) removed sept 4 & started bleeding 3 days later & have been spotting since. had unprotected sex numerous times. pregnancy possible?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: An IUD such as Mirena (levonorgestrel) stops offering protection from pregnancy immediately after it is removed. Bleeding/spotting after removal is common but does not suggest that you cannot get pregnant. If pregnancy is not desired, an alternate form of contraception should be started.
