Herpes zoster: Creams are totally useless despite the claims they make in advertizements. Valacyclovir is my go-to medicine for Herpes zoster. The dose is 1gram three times a day for the duration of the outbreak. If the outbreaks are occurring with increasing frequency..prophylactic use of one gram a day can be instituted by your physician.
