Rarely contagious: I suspect you're the same person who asked about your husband's Bell's palsy and kissing. As noted there, HSV1 is a common cause. However, infection in the facial nerve isn't contagious -- only if there is herpes involving the mouth, usually with cold sores. And BP itself is not transmissible. Even if someone catches this particular HSV strain, BP probably would not result -- just regular herpes.

BP is not contagious: Viruses are contagious, -Bells palsy is due to the facial nerve not functioning properly, being weakened or paralyzed ,and can occur after a viral infection. The nerve is damaged by inflammation. Other things can damage the facial nerve and evaluation for other causes should occur, often time limited
