Semen Composition: Semen consists of not only sperm but also several other materials called seminal plasma that keeps the sperm alive. Sperm that do not end up fertilizing an egg typically die after 2-3 days and the cellular materials and seminal plasma components are reabsorbed by the female body similar to other dead and recycled tissue.
