A member asked:

I went in for birthcontrol and my doctor put me on yaz (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol). i'm very worried about blood clots, is it likely i'll get them? how can i prevent them?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Estrogen: Estrogen increases the risk of blood clots but, unless u have an underlying medical problem that predisposes u to clots, your baseline risk at 18 is extremely small and even doubling it the risk remains very small. To decrease the risk even more avoid tobacco use, stay well hydrated, and move around ( being sedentary increases the risk).Pregnancy is an increased estrogen state and increases risk 2
