Little effect: Birth control pills do not help anxiety. They typically do not cause anxiety, either. However, a small percentage of women report that the synthetic hormones in birth control pills contribute to depression or 'just not feeling right'. It may be worth trying for a month or two, as pills are reliable birth control when taken properly and you can always stop them if you feel badly.

Can't predict: For most women, birth control doesn't affect anxiety, but for a few women, hormonal contraceptives can worsen moods. Worry about an unintended pregnancy can certainly cause anxiety, so choose a good method of birth control so you don't have to worry.
