Variable: Menarche (onset of period) is variable and usually occurs after secondary sex characteristics (pubic hair, breast development) have been present. Most girls will have menarche within a year of secondary sex characteristics, but other factors may also affect this. If you haven't had a period 1 year after those changes occured, discuss it with your doctor.
