Be safe: There are many varieties of hpv virus. Some live only in the genital area and others can also take up residence in the mouth and throat. Since it is impossible to know what type the person in question has, it is best to err on the side of caution.

Yes: Hpv is a family of viruses that live in the cells of mucosal tissue, like that of a woman's cervix or the back or a person's throat. It is the fastest growing std and is probably the reason why young males are the fastest growing group of cancer victims-oral. While oral sex and kissing may transmit the virus, it may not manifest as cancer & can spread it thru sexual activity. Get the vaccine!
