Pain: What you are describing may be a thrombosed external hemorrhoid versus a perianal abscess. If it is severely painful and purplish in color it is a hemorrhoid. You can perform sitz baths and soak twice a day in warm water to help it shrink. If it is an abscess it may leak pus. If you have an abscess you need to go to the er if it getting bigger and more painful.
