Passing mucus through the rectum isn't concerning unless there is copious amount or associated intestinal symptoms or there is a STD present. However since you were experiencing anal discomfort an anal fissure may have been the cause. A proctologist is best to evaluate you if anal discomfort or problematic hemorrhoidal symptoms don't fully resolve.
