NSAIDs, viruses: The most common cause is probably non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (nsaids) such as aspirin, motrin, etc. Especially for scattered ulcers in the upper colon. Some viruses such as cytomegalovirus can also cause ulcers.

UC and Crohn's : Ulcerative colitis, crohn's disease are the 2 low hanging fruit. Tb of the gut is very rare. A biopsy of one of the ulcer bed is usually what is called for, and the pathology helps diagnosis.
