A member asked:

How do you talk to a teenager about masturbation?

Confidentially!: If a parent, this should have begun a long time ago. Otherwise, one should first hear the person's questions & then carefully answer them. Sexual stimulation is a part of who we are, biological & unavoidable. Masturbation is a normal process and very personal. It can become abnormal and cause issues. Fallacies should be dispelled, reassurance given, & an open dialogue kept! dispel shame!

If and when they ask: Unless you feel t is necessary to discuss it with him/her. In which case it is best to just them whether or not they would like to have a talk about masturbation. He/she will either welcome the discussion or else feel too embarassed. Please avoid creating a guilt trip if and when you do talk about it. Please remember that masturbation is perfectly normal for any teenager and is safe sex.
