3 - 5 days: Sperm ejaculated into the upper vagina/cervical mucous can last for 3-5 days. Sperm ejaculated outside the body lives for only a few hours.

Sperm: Sperm in the vagina don't live more than minutes, the ph is too acidic for them. Sperm in the cervix/cervical crypts on the other hand live at least 48-72 hours, some reports do suggest up to 5 days.

A 24-year-old female asked:
It is said that sperm can stay inside vagina for up to 72 hours but is it actually unlikely to stay alive that long & actually impregnate?

Dr. Timothy Brown answered

No: When you are approaching ovulation the cervix produces a stretchy, egg white-like mucus that actually favors and protects the sperm and helps it on its way. Sperm have been reported to be able to survive in this mucus up to 6 days, and can definitely still impregnate.

Here are some...: The living environments for the sperms in semen from natural vaginal insemination and "in-home" insemination, artificial, differ; for natural insemination, sperm may live up to 3-7 days and much shorter from "in-home" artificial one. More? Ask your ob-gyn doctor.
