Several days: The sperm actually quickly leave the vagina and migrate upward into the uterus and fallopian tubes. They can live there for several days while waiting for an egg to be released. 2 to 3 days is normal, five days has been reported.

Best condiitons?: The vagina is actual "terrible" conditions for sperm, the ph is too acidic so they die quickly. No one can say for sure "how" quickly, but most should die in less than an hour. On the other hand, sperm can survive at least 2-3 days in the cervix, and often longer.
