Normal age?: Masturbation of sorts occurs in all ages from the very youg to the very old. Masturbation that occurs at an age that leads the person to know and understand what they are doing, why they are doing it and with the right attitude and health is the normal age. Masturbation is usually described at the onset of puberty, however very young children masturbate, maybe not to orgasm but for pleasure.

Wide range: There's a wide range of ages for this. Even small children may play with themselves, exploring their bodies. But focused masturbation is different. Studies suggest that boys may start fondling themselves as young as 7; by puberty 50% have tried to masturbate. By age 16, 80% of boys are doing it regularly. Girls may start by puberty, or often later. By 20, 50% of girls have tried masturbation.
