Both: Genital herpes can easily spread between partners avoiding genital/genital or oral/genital contact with an infected partner is key. It can be transmitted from bodily fluids but is primarily spread from direct contact. Condoms and antiviral meds such as Valtrex (valacyclovir) can reduce, but not eliminate the spread.
