Not really: Sex that is too long, too hard, too dry, penis too big, vagina too small, poor foreplay, lack of lubrication and many other things can cause labial swelling. Call your doctor and have an exam. Infections can also cause swelling. Call your doc!

A 41-year-old member asked:

My labia minora is swollen after sex. Is this normal?

No, but it happens: If the sex is too rough, too long, too dry etc, the labia minora can become inflamed. It is not normal, but it is not uncommon. Using extra lubricant such as astroglide or pjur can help. Allergy to condoms can also cause the problem. It the problem persists, it is time to have your doctor examine you.
A 38-year-old member asked:

How bad is it if the inner labia stayed swollen after sex?

Dr. Bryan Treacy

Not: If the labia are swollen after sex, it may be due to inadequate lubrication of the vulva & vagina during intercourse. This is related to estrogen production & at 38, there may be some ovarian dysfunction occurring. However, there are problems that present with swollen labia that need to be evaluated by examination. If still present at 48 hours or so, see your doctor.

What could cause a swollen labia during and after sex?

Lots of things: Too hard, too long, too dry, too rough, vagina too small, penis too big, not enough foreplay, infections, trauma, etc. If the problem does not resolve, you need to get examined by your doctor, don't be shy...Go! in the future, be gentle, use lube if needed (astroglide or pjur), go slow, if it hurts, stop and cuddle and try again later.
A 40-year-old member asked:

Swollen labia after sex? His or my fault?

Neither: Common. And who lays blame in something so enjoyable? She might simply be excited, or if he's rough, she may ask him to lubricate more or be gentler. There's no risk -- keep the communication open and sex will get better and better.
A 48-year-old member asked:

Swollen labia during plus after sex. Am I too dry?

Maybe: Try a water based lubricant to supplement "mother nature" such as k-y or astroglide. If the swelling continues see an gyn for evaluation for a possible Bartholin's gland infection or cyst.
