A 36-year-old member asked:

are certain forms of masturbation causing urinary frequency.?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Hector Chapa

Not really: Age/religious beliefs and affiliation have been found to have a significant relationship between masturbation and women. Sex can lead to a UTI due to bacteria contamination. There is so data that female leads to uti. Some actually suggest it lowers UTI risk by "massaging" the urethra abd aiding in bacterial expulsion. Vigorous massage in the area could cause urethral sensitivity and frequency.

No: It is normal to go to the bathroom frequently when you are pregnant, especially as the baby gets bigger and begins tap dancing on your bladder. Stinging when you urinate is rarely normal and you should be evaluated for a urinary tract infection. Bladder infections should be treated quickly in pregnancy to avoid developing a kidney infection.

Not pyelonephritis: Renal ultrasound can not detect pyelonephritis unless there is appreciable swelling of part or all of the kidney. It is excellent for demonstrating kidney cysts, hydronephrosis or kidney obstruction. Will demonstrate large and obstructing kidney stones but can and will miss small kidney stones smaller especially smaller than 3mm.
