Hard to answer: Probably best ans is at least 1 cc of semen having at least 10-15 million active sperm. We know it takes about 40 sperm working on the egg trying to penetrate the wall of the egg for one ...or occasionally 2 or 3 to get in and fertilize. Yes the semen needs to be there on or about the time of ovulation. Now, the more semen and the more sperm the better.
