Very effective: They can be very effective against STD's like Gonorrhea and Chlamydia , HIV. Cannot protect as well against HSV as that may be transmitted for scrotal/perineal source.

STD: Condoms are effective if worn properly. However, it only protects the shaft of the penis. If your partner has an active herpes infection then it is possible to transfer the herpes where the condom doesn't cover. Also, "natural" condoms don't protect against HIV. Use latex condoms for the best protection.

STD: condom is so far the best and very effective way to stop STD. Of course it is still not 100%, due to inappropriate use or broken.
