A 22-year-old female asked:
Is it possible to get pregnant while taking the depo-provera shot?

It is possible: It is possible but unlikely. Depo-Provera is 99% effective at preventing pregnancy. Usually with Depo you do not have periods and do not ovulate so this prevents pregnancy. If you think that you may be pregnant please take a pregnancy test.

Is it possible to get pregnant while on the Depo-Provera Shot? I have only had one?

Yes: As long as you are having sex with or without a condom, on or off birth control, there is always a chance of getting pregnant. Having sex during ovulation, without a condom, without birth control each just increase those chances. The only way to know if you are pregnant is to do a pregnancy test. Only abstinence and hysterectomy are 100% effective

While still possible to become pregnant it is extremely unlikely on depo provera (as long as you are within coverage time).

I've been on the Depo-Provera shot for a year and a half. Is it possible for me to get pregnant?

Yes: No birth control method is perfect, except for hysterectomy. So yes, you can get pregnant. Usually best to use two methods of birth control, in your case maybe Depo-Provera plus condoms.

A member asked about a 23-year-old female:
Can you cancel out your Depo-Provera shot in any way possible?

Maybe: You can't take away the medication in the depot shot once it's been given. Some women, however, have break through bleeding on the shot and those women can benefit from taking birth control on top of the shot. But, no, there's no way to remove the progesterone in the depot shot once it's been given. Only to counter some of its effects with estrogen in birth control pill.

Agree with the good doctor, Ask your doctor about nuvaring as an alternative to Depoprovera, You only need to replace it once a month.

Unlikely: You get pregnant when you ovulate. It is highly unlikely you are ovulating then.

I agree with Dr. Killian, but keep in mind why it's so important to get your Depo shot on time. If the effects of the DepoProvera have diminished enough that you have break through ovulation AND you have been have sexual intercourse recently, pregnancy is possible. Remember also that most women can' tell when they're ovulating.
