Genital herpes?: When a patient asks about herpes, i find they r often interesting in learning about genital herpes, which is usually caused by type 1 or 2 herpes. Once a person has genital herpes, it can't b cured, but can b managed. Often herpes doesn't cause symptoms so the best way 2 know if u have it is 2 get tested. If u have a sore, see your pcp. If u want routine screening or info, see sexualhealth.Com.

A family of viruses: Herpes simplex virus type 1 usually causes cold sores on the lips. Type 2 usually causes genital herpes. However, herpes virus is an equal opportunity virus, so type 1 sometimes causes genital herpes, and type 2 sometimes ends up causing lip sores, depending on what kinds of activities a person participates in. There is no cure, but anti-viral medications help treat and prevent recurrences.

Genital herpes: I don't see a question. Herpes is the most common cause of genital sores. If the diagnosis is uncertain, see a doctor for examination and testing.
