Virus: Herpes simplex (hsv) is a viral infection. The virus typically casuses fever blisters or cold sores (hsv-1) or genital herpes (hsv-2) although either type can infect either site. It typically causes a painful ulcer at the infected site, although subsequent infections can be less painful. Anti-viral medications like Acyclovir can help.
