Difficult to Say: Unpredictable bleeding can be a normal side effect of Depo Provera, (medroxyprogesterone) and it is difficult to say how long it will last. Some people will cycle normally on it, some people will have sporadic periods, and others may have continuous unpredictable bleeding of some type. It is impossible to predict which will occur. However, give it at least 6 months to see if the irregular bleeding resolves.
