Irregular period : It sounds like an irregular period with an extra strong case of premenstrual syndrome symptoms.

Annovulatory cycle: The most likely reason is an annovulatory cycle (didn't ovulate), which delays bleeding and may cause spotting and the same PMS type symptoms. You may need some provera (medroxyprogesterone) to bring your cycle back on.
