If skin is a protective barrier, why doesn't it protect you from herpes or other diseases?how do they infect if theyre in contact with dead skin cell?

It does...: Although some organisms can penetrate intact skin herpes does not. The herpes virus infects by coming into contact with a mucus membrane like the mouth, vaginal canal or the male urethra. Hope this helps.
