See doctor: This sounds like STD but a monilial infection may occasionally affect both partners (although it is often asymptomatic in the male partner even if he is infected). You need to see your GYN then tell your BF what the infection is so that he can get treatment as well.

Painful: This sounds very painful. Initial thought is yeast infection, as that can cause pain and inflammation. Of course want to rule out any STDs as well. You should avoid intercourse until you have an answer. In the meantime, make an appointment to make sure you get evaluated for STD, but also, before that appt, can try OTC anti-fungal like 5 or 7-day Monistat or generic equivalent.
