Dr. Alvin Lin answered

Glycemic control: Best way to prevent any diabetes complications, be it stroke, blindness, heart attack, kidney failure, amputations and/or erectile dysfunction is tight glycemic (sugar) control. Work w/your family doc, nutritionist & diabetic educator to get your sugars (BP & lipids too) under control w/combination of nutrition, exercise & (if necessary) medications. Lowest risk for complications is w/A1c
