A 21-year-old member asked:

can you get stds through anal sex?

Of COURSE!: Its still sexual contact isnt it? All you need to spread STDs is skin-to-skin contact for some and contact with infected secretions for others. Gonorrhea in the anus is common, hpv causes anal cancer and spread by secretions contacting the anus (even during vaginal sex with secretions sliding down), HIV and syphilis can spread thru anal sex. Safe sex no matter what type please!

Absolutuely: Yes! as well as other infections and trauma and permanent damage to the anal sphincters. The anus was designed as an exit not an entrance.

When is a normal time to start having sex again after giving birth?

6 weeks: For many years obs have always said 6 weeks. I would imagine most patients do not wait that long. With an episiotomy, we feel 6 weeks are needed for complete healing. Without an episiotomy there is no need to wait 6 weeks. The uterus takes about 6 weeks to return to normal size but this should not be a factor. With a cesarean certainly 6 weeks makes sense. In short, i would suggest 6 weeks.

How does a man's sex life change with aging?

Lowered function: While sexual potential can carry through into quite older age, the erectile capacity and ejacualate volume decrease with age. Some lose desire which is entirely psychological. Note the many products on the market for this and the destruction of endangered animals for this (rhino horns, bear gall bladder stones, etc.).

What can cause a foul odor in urine, thats not an std?

Dr. Vance Harris
Family Medicine 37 years experience
Bladder infection: Foul-smelling urine can come from a bladder infection or even from certain foods that we eat. Stds do not usually effect the bladder and i wouldn't think they are responsible for the foul-smelling urine. More than likely it is from a bladder infection. Vaginal infections can sometimes have an odor as well and may be difficult to distinguish from odor caused by urine.
