Intercourse: It is wise to use protection during intercourse. Rectal intercourse can cause sexually transmitted diseases like oral or vaginal intercourse. Depending on the anatomical size of each individual, caution should be taken when performing anal receptive intercourse as the tissues may be easily injured.

Anal sex: Anal receptive sex can cause tearing of anal tissues including perforation of the colon. Repeated anal sex can weaken the anal sphincter muscle & cause problems with incontinence. It can also lead to transmission of sexually transmitted diseases and other infections.
