Misdiagnosis: Herpes can always be mistaken for another cause. Sometimes the herpes rash can look different at varying stages of infection, hence giving it an uncharacteristic appearance. To be sure, a physician can utilize laboratory testing to confirm or refute the suspected diagnosis.
