A member asked:

Is impetigo caused by herpes simplex 2? or can it be a cause? or is impetigo simply from bacteria?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bacteria: Impetigo is usually either strep or staph skin germs. Hs1 is a dna virus that often triggers cycles of skin disruption in specific places like the "cold sore". A swab of a hs1 site can often be contaminated with skin bacteria, but they are not the trigger, they are just feasting on any serum left around the site. There can be some similarities in how the two look.
